PACIFIC ZONE NATIONAL TEAM TRY-OUTS

(Updated May 9, 2008) Zone Teams have been chosen; the rosters are posted on the "Teams" web page. The 'News' section of the website will be udpated with team practice information as it becomes available. Men's Youth, Coach - Corey Dolley, (born in 1993 and 1994) Team practice May 11, 2008, Soda Aquatic Center at Campolindo High School, Moraga, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm; practice on May 18, 2008, time and location TBA Men's Junior, Coach - James Lathrop, (born in 1991 and 1992) Practice dates and times TBA Women's Youth, Coach - Ted Minnis, (born in 1993 and 1994) Team practice on Sunday, May 11 at Castilleja School, 1310 Bryant Street, Palo Alto, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Women's Junior, Coach - Travis Wyckoff, (born in 1991 and 1992) Team practice on Sunday, May 11 at Soda Aquatic Center at Campolindo High School, Moraga, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Team practice on Sunday, May 18 at Presentation High School, San Jose, 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm Athletes are to bring their own personal items (swim suit, googles, eye/ear drops, towel), bag lunch, and water bottle.

Changes to Conduct of USA Water Polo Championships

(April 19, 2008) The Conduct of Championships, which governs USA Water Polo's national championship events, has been revised in anticipation of the 2008 competition season. Please note the change to rule 6.2 (a) ii, which now states: "Members must affiliate with a club by May 15, 2008, for the summer season. This helps build club loyalty while eliminating "club hopping." "Exceptions are made only at the discretion of the Zone Chair and final approval of the CEO." Cal Wins NCAA Championship

University of California defended their 2006 NCAA Water Polo Championship at The Avery Aquatic complex at Stanford University, December 1st and 2nd, by defeating The Naval Academy 8-5 on Saturday and the top seeded University of Southern California 8-6 on Sunday. This was Cal’s record setting 13th National Title. The Cal team was coached by Kirk Everist, Senior Mike Sharf was selected as MVP of the tournament, he was joined on the All-Tournament Team by fellow Seniors Zac Monsees, Jeff Tyrrell and Goalie Mark Sheredy. Sophomore Spencer Warden was selected to the Second Team All-Tournament. Congratulations to the team and the University on this honor.

West Valley Wins State Championship

Congratulations West Valley College won it's fifth State Community College Championship Sunday Nov 18th, by beating Golden West College 12-8 in the championship game. Golden West was undefeated at 30-0 and had beaten West Valley four times during the season. This was West Valley's fifth championship in the last ten years and place second last season. West Valley took a three goal lead after the first quarter and Golden West was able to get within two goals twice, until West Valley ran off three straight goals early in the fourth quarter to put the game away. West Valley's Casey Regehr was named Tournament MVP and Bruce Watson was named Coach of the Year. The Pacific Zone was also represented by Santa Rosa Community College, which took third by beating Cuesta College 7-6.
